A bed is one of the most essential and common household items which is found in every house. A bed is where people lie down at the end of tiring day and relax. The main purpose of a bed is to provide comfort and relaxation to the body. Soft mattresses made of cotton, sponges and foams add a lot to the comfort provided by beds. A bed is one of the largest wooden furniture inside a room and obviously it covers a huge space.

Double bed covers even more space than single bed which a is a big problem specially for small rooms. A bed covers so much space in a room that it often becomes difficult to place any more furniture inside because it makes the room congested. Besides, as a wooden bed is very heavy it is hard to move it from one place to another. However, things are not so difficult these days as most of the people now use box-bed.
Basically there is no difference in size of an ordinary bed and a box bed. Just like ordinary bed, a box-bed is also made of wood. But the difference is elsewhere. The specialty of box-bed is the hollow chamber below the beddings which can be used as a storage space for lot of things. As the chamber looks like a square or rectangular box the bed is called box-bed. A hollow chamber equal to the size of a double bed is a huge area and is very useful specially for rooms that are not large enough for storing much things.
Besides, unlike ordinary wooden, entire portion of box-bed do not touch the ground. Only the stands on four sides are attached to the ground and the rest of the portion is vacant so its also easy to clean the bottom of the bed. Apart from that, as the chamber is made of plywood, box bed is light weighed compared to ordinary wooden bed and is a little easy to shift from one place to another.
However, apart from wooden beds, box-bed made of wrought iron and cane are also available and as these are less weighty than woods, people are now opting for those.
